There is a BIG trend brewing that’s revolutionizing the way business is being done. Successful membership sites are helping photographers, dog trainers, meal planners, teachers, musicians, artists, and so many more people all over the world develop new skills, get healthier, and live happier, more effective lives.
With our signature training course, TRIBE, we serve thousands of successful people who own membership sites – and we’ve always wanted to share not just the incredible results that they’ve gotten, but also their
stories. We want to show people
how they achieved it, the ripple effect that their work has on the people they serve, and why we’re so proud of our TRIBE.
That’s why we’re launching our new podcast,
It’s a TRIBE Thing. Your host,
Shelli Varela, is a fellow TRIBEr, and she’s had powerful, vulnerable conversations with incredible people about launching and running membership sites. We’re excited to give you the opportunity to peek under the hood with her, discover the powerful insights our TRIBErs have used to transform their businesses (and their lives), and maybe even give you (or someone you know) the push to launch a membership site of your own.
So, go and subscribe to the show right now. Share it on Instagram using the hashtag #IATT, and be sure to tag @StuMcLaren. We look forward to you joining us on this amazing journey!

Memorable Quotes
There are literally membership sites in every market you can think of and they’re thriving. It’s amazing. What we want to do in this podcast, is begin to show you how you can do it too.” – Stu McLaren
The magic of story is what we tell ourselves about what is possible and what is impossible. Sometimes, it’s as simple as a reframe, or asking ourselves a better question. That’s the first domino that knocks all the others over and makes that result 10 times easier than it would’ve been to achieve otherwise.” – Shelli Varela

Stu: Well hello, my friend. It’s me, Stu.
Shelli: And me Shelli.
Stu: And we are here because we’ve got an exciting new project. It is something we are both super pumped to do because I don’t know if you know this or not but there is a recurring revolution that is happening meaning membership sites are being created all around the world in all kinds of different markets from calligraphy to photography, to dog training, meal planning, lesson plans for teachers, guitar, piano, and all kinds of different music, to the arts. Like people, teaching people how to paint and draw and color, helping people live healthier, get thinner, be happier. There are literally membership sites in every market you can think of and they’re thriving, and it is amazing and what we want to do in this show is begin to show you how you can do it too.
Shelli: So, Stu, I’m super stoked to be part of this podcast, but I’m wondering if you can share with the listeners what is it and how it came to be.
Stu: Okay. So, we have the honor and the privilege of literally serving thousands and thousands of different membership site owners in all kinds of different markets with our signature training course called TRIBE. Now, one of the things that I love to do is I love to share the stories of these incredible people because these stories are so much more than just the results that people are getting. The problem was, was that we didn’t have the opportunity to be able to share all of these stories in the way that we want to be able to share them and that’s how this show came to be is we thought, “Okay, why not let’s get the word out and start bringing a spotlight to these incredible people and the ripple effect that they’re having in this world?” because it’s not just about what they’re doing. We want to show people how they’re doing it and then we also want to talk about the ripple effect that it’s having on not only on their lives but on the lives of the people that they’re serving. We are just so stinking proud of our TRIBE is basically what it boils down to, and that’s what we are going to be highlighting in the show. I’m excited. Are you?
Shelli: I am so stoked. And, you know, as a TRIBEr myself, I had the opportunity to see behind the scenes of some of these incredible people and watch their growth so I’m super stoked that we get the opportunity to be able to celebrate and share them here with all of you.
Stu: So, people might be wondering, “Wait a minute. Who the heck is Shelli and what is she doing on this show?” Well, let me just tell you. Shelli, as she mentioned, has been part of our TRIBE community from the get-go and it’s given us an opportunity to see her genius and her genius is being able to pull out the story and help people see the value in their story, which is helping them create more sales in their business. The better you can tell your story, the better your business will grow. And so, I’m super excited and honored that, Shelli, you have joined us for the show to be able to help our people share their story in terms of the impact that they’re having in their communities.
Shelli: Well, I’m super stoked to have the opportunity to share them because like I said, as a TRIBEr and as a TRIBE member, I’ve had the chance to have very vulnerable conversations and get under the hood of what makes people tick and what I noticed was is that when they learn to share their stories, not only are they creating a better and a bigger result for their businesses, but they’re also inspiring those coming behind them so that is part of what we’re trying to do right now is create not only a ripple effect and shine light on the amazing results they’re getting but also to be able to share those results with other people so they can get them as well.
Stu: Totally. So, this is about like not only what are people doing to create recurring revenue in their business. It’s also about how they’re doing it. So, yes, we’re going to get into the tactics and strategies and all the things that made the difference in helping people grow their membership and then we’re also going to talk about what that means and what that means not only for the people personally but what that means for their families and what that means for the communities that they serve. So, listen, if you have been thinking about launching a membership site, if you’ve been thinking about growing an online community or if you already have an established online membership site or community and it’s just not growing at the rate that you want, this show is for you because this is all about helping you identify exactly what you could be doing today just like all the people that we’re going to be featuring and we have got some doozy stories lined up for you. Let me tell you.
Speaking of which, that’s really what the show is going to be focused on, right, Shelli?
Shelli: Absolutely. So, the cool thing is behind all of these successful membership sites are human beings and these human beings have had to hack and manufacture and up-level personally and professionally so that they can get these membership sites off the ground and serving the people that they were intended to serve.
Stu: So, there are three things that we’re going to be focusing on in the show. Number one, as Shelli said, the people and these people are incredible and what’s so fun is that there are all kinds of people from all kinds of different walks of life, people who live in the city, people who live out in the middle of nowhere, people who love interacting with their community, people who don’t like interacting with their community, people who are serving in all kinds of different markets like we talked about from calligraphy to photography to dog training and meal planning and so many crazy different markets but it’s the people. The people are incredible and there is nothing that makes me more proud than our TRIBE. And what you’re going to see is what makes our TRIBE so incredibly special, and when you hear the stories of these people, well, you’re going to be inspired. Now, speaking of which, to tell a great story, there are some key components to this, right, Shelli?
Shelli: Absolutely. So, I have been obsessed with telling stories since I was a little girl. I come from a family of storytellers and the thing that fascinates me the most about stories is it’s not just the result that you see on the outside, although that is the thing that everybody is focused on and that’s the result that everybody wants to achieve. But the magic of story is actually the story we tell ourselves about what is possible and what is impossible and how sometimes it’s as simple as a reframe or asking ourselves a better question that is able to be the first domino that knocks all the other dominoes over and make that result 10 times easier than it would’ve been to achieve otherwise.
Stu: Well, this is where Shelli’s genius is going to be unpacked in each episode because her ability to be able to tell a story, craft a story, and pull the story out of the people is going to be epic. So, number one is the people themselves, number two is the story, and number three are the insights. Listen, at the end of the day, one of the things that Shelli touched on was that oftentimes it’s the little nuances that make a huge difference in the results and we’re talking people who are launching for the first time, but we’re also talking about seasoned vets who have been doing this for quite some time and then with one idea, one insight, seeing a massive difference in the results that they’re getting with their membership sites. So, how does that happen and how do people have those insights? Where do those insights come from? Well, you’re going to discover that in this show. That’s the whole point. The whole point is to help create solutions for you, solutions that you can start applying right now based on what you hear from others in this show. And, Shelli, I know one of the things that you love to do is you love to really get under the hood and get into the real and raw story. Am I right?
Shelli: I love getting under the hood of what makes people tick and so often, that breakthrough that you’re looking for, that glass ceiling you’re looking to bust through is so much closer, and so much easier than it seems to be, and sometimes it’s as simple as hearing a tip or trick or an insight or hearing how somebody did something and oftentimes, the thing that they overcame is their internal game. It’s just that quarter turn in the lock that makes all of the difference for everybody else coming behind you. Like, have you ever had one of those moments where somebody says something to you and it might even be something that you’ve heard before but they say it a certain way, and there’s something about it that just grabs you and you have that aha moment and then also in your perspective has changed, and everything else becomes easy after that.
Stu: It’s like that lead domino, right? You talk about this all the time. The lead domino that then tackles everything else down and creates a ton of momentum.
Shelli: Absolutely. If you can find that one thing that’s holding you back, you can create a solution around that and it literally is like finding the first domino, and when you do, all the other dominoes fall. So, that result that you’re looking for at the end becomes much easier and much simpler than you perceived it could’ve been otherwise.
Stu: So, we’re here to tell you, my friends, we see this day in and day out because we literally have hundreds and hundreds of stories to share with you. We get to experience it because, well, these people are part of our TRIBE and we hear these stories but I’m telling you right here, right now, if you’ve ever thought about creating a membership site or you have a membership site and you really want to get it to the next level, this show is for you. I can’t tell you how excited I am because it’s the people, it’s their story, and it’s their insights that are going to make all the difference for you. And that, my friend, is what we’re after. So, listen, what we want you to do right here right now because there’s so much goodness coming down the pipeline is we want you to subscribe to the show, right, Shelli?
Shelli: Absolutely, because we are going to have a weekly party here where we’re going to be sharing our people, their stories, and their insights with all of you.
Stu: So, go and subscribe to the show right now and if you know somebody who’s been thinking about launching a membership site or they have one, tell them about this show too. In fact, make sure you share it on Instagram, just include #IATT and we’ll be able to find you and we’ll repost it because, hey, why not? We want to spread the word too. Listen, we’re so pumped and excited about this because we get to see and hear the stories day in and day out, and they’re incredibly inspiring and they’re real people doing amazing things in all kinds of different markets. We could not have anybody better than Shelli Varela to help us navigate these journeys, to pull out these stories, and to celebrate them. Listen, I am so incredibly proud of our TRIBE and I cannot wait to share the stories with you. So, buckle your seatbelts, my friends. This is going to be an amazing journey. Any final parting words, Shelli?
Shelli: I am so stoked to be here. I’m so stoked to be sharing these people’s stories and I’m so stoked to be able to serve our TRIBE community and all of our listeners. So, we will catch you guys on the flip.
Stu: Heck, yeah! It’s great to be a TRIBEr. It’s A TRIBE Thing. Woohoo!
